Our story
ScotFoam was founded by Barry Masterton in 2017 during his time with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Scot Foam was set up after identifying the need to provide a faster, more efficient and eco-friendly way of insulating and protecting homes, businesses and industrial spaces. Barry identified Icynene as the solution. This is a selection of innovative, fully accredited insulation materials widely used across North America and Canada. After thorough consultation, we promptly set up links to partner with Icynene and brought their formulas to the Scottish market.
Initially a spray foam contractor, Scot Foam was one of the only installers in the country to offer the BBA-certified, breathable foam. After successful working partnerships with major main contractors and global brands, demand forced Scot Foam to include other insulation systems in their portfolio, and now offer several different services across residential, commercial and agricultural sectors.
Scot Foam now has a team of highly qualified insulation technicians, trained in all aspects of installs and hold accreditations in Asbestos Awareness, Working at Height, and all hold valid CSCS cards.
Working across Scotland, Scot Foam has been incorporated into the Scottish Government’s ‘Warmer Homes Scheme’ where they will be insulating communities and providing other energy-efficient measures to the public. Scot Foam also covers private work from retrofits, conversions, new builds and funded work through Home Energy Scotland.
Our core services
Thermal insulation
Insulation is your properties year-round armour against the elements, preserving the internal temperature and reducing the need for increasingly expensive heating systems.
A critical component of all new builds, insulation is also one of the most important upgrades you can make to an existing property, whether that’s residential, commercial or industrial.
The airtightness of your insulation impacts every other energy-saving improvement you’ll tackle. Traditional insulation methods leave cracks and gaps in between cavities and these can all add up to significant heat loss. Spray foam avoids these problems as it rapidly expands to fill all spaces, leaving no room for air to escape.
Fireproofing
We have extensive experience in fireproofing buildings, having previously worked with the fire service in the UK. One of our core products (Icynene Classic Plus “O”) is a class 0 fire rated spray foam insulation that has also achieved a best in class surface spread of flame of class 1 (test range class 1 best to class 4 worst). Utilising a special intumescent coating, Icynene has achieved certification to BS EN 476 Part 6 & 7 in addition to achieving Class 0 in accordance with approved Documents B “Fire Safety” to the Building Regulations 2000.
This allows the application of Icynene Classic Plus “O” to areas and buildings that require a Class 0 fire rated product and Class 1 Surface Spread of flame such as concrete Soffits and floor slabs. It also allows for the foam to be left exposed in many types of residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural buildings without the need for additional fire retardant measures.
Soundproofing
A common advantage of our Icynene spray foams is the high levels of sound insulation. By thoroughly filling the spaces within walls, floors and roofs through which sound travels, we’re able to virtually eliminate airborne sounds such as music, telephones, conversations and all mid to high range frequency noise.
We regularly use Icynene foam for applications such as offices, recording studios, spas, doctors surgeries and other environments in which it is important to control sound levels.
It is also proven to reduce mechanical noise in industrial settings and can even help to silence noisy drains and pipes.
