Mineral Wool Insulation
Our Insulation Loft Rolls are Mineral Wool rolls, designed for use in cold lofts where pitched roofs are insulated at ceiling level.
They are non-combustible with the best possible Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification, and are manufactured using Knauf Insulation’s unique bio-based binder, ECOSE® Technology.

The key benefits of Mineral Wool insulation
Ideal for attics, lofts and other roof spaces.
25%
25% of household heat is lost through poorly insulated roof spaces.
Ready to use
Available Combi-cut, Ready-cut and uncut formats giving a wide range of choice to suit specific install requirements.
Maximised efficiency
Combi-cut products are supplied partially perforated, providing the flexibility to be used between joists or used uncut as a full-width roll as a top-up layer, maximising on-site efficiency.
Flexibility
Manufactured in two different options; long lengths to allow quick and simple installation maximising efficiency, and shorter lengths for ease of handling on-site.
Easy to handle
Compression-packed and lightweight for easy handling and moving around a site.
How it works
Durability
Loft Rolls are odourless, rot proof, non-hygroscopic, do not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould or bacteria.
Application
Loft Rolls are used for the thermal insulation of cold pitched roofs at ceiling level. They are usually laid in two layers, with the first layer between the joists and the second layer over, and at right angles to the joists.
Standards and certification
Loft Rolls are manufactured in accordance with BS EN 13162, ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems, OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, and ISO 9001 Quality Management systems, as certified by TÜV Nord. All our Glass Mineral Wool products have been awarded the DECLARE ‘Red List Free’ label. Having the ‘Red List Free’ label means that there are no ingredients in the product that are on the red list – including formaldehyde or phenol
Real performance
Glass and Rock Mineral Wool are easier to install correctly than other insulants such as rigid boards because they adapt to any slight imperfections in the substrate and knit together, eliminating any air gaps. Evidence shows the absence of air gaps is crucial to achieving real performance in the relevant application.
Environmental
Loft Rolls contain no ozone-depleting substances or greenhouse gases. For further environmental information consult the relevant

Handling and storage
Loft Rolls are easy to handle and install, being lightweight and easily cut to size, where necessary. Loft Rolls are supplied in recyclable polythene packs (4-LDPE) which are designed for short term protection only. For longer term protection on site, the product should either be stored indoors, or under cover and off the ground. Loft Rolls should not be left permanently exposed to the elements.
Frequently asked questions
The benefits of Mineral Wool insulation are numerous for property and business owners in the UK.
Here are some common questions we are asked about Mineral Wool insulation.
Glass wool is made from glass fibres, heated to high temperatures, and spun to create glass wool. Mineral wool is made in a very similar way but includes other raw materials such as stone. Both can be used in similar applications, but at ScotFoam we prefer to use mineral wool as it is slightly more energy efficient, offers better soundproofing, is more moisture resistant and is not as ‘itchy’ as glass wool products.
Wool insulation has several benefits. It is quick to install and has a long life span. It is easy to ‘top up’ wool insulation that may already be in place, and it also fire resistant and an excellent sound proofer. It is also relatively inexpensive compared to other insulation measures.
At ScotFoam, founded by 2 Firefighters, we only use fire-resistant, non-combustible, approved mineral wools, ensuring our customers have the best materials possible at competitive prices.
Compared to other materials, such as spray foam insulation and cavity wall insulation, mineral wool can be a more cost-effective install, but it all depends on each project. At ScotFoam we aim to offer our customers a competitive price, as we are aware that insulation should be an investment, which should be returned between 3-5 years.
While wool is not as efficient per centimetre as PIR/Rigid Board such as Kingspan etc it becomes more efficient as it can be layered in lofts toachieve a thick, thermally efficient blanket to ensure maximum efficiency. The recommended depth for wool in a loft is between 270mm-300mm.
At ScotFoam, we are the only installer in Scotland to offer wool, a KIWA-certified cavity wall and BBA-certified spray foam insulation. This puts us in a prime position to provide our customers with the most suitable material for their homes, as we are well aware that insulation is not ‘one type fits all’ and so will not try to shoehorn a product into a project it may not be fit for. Each home or project must be surveyed on its own merits, and our surveyors will discuss and offer you the best option for your home.
