FAQs
No! Our spray foam will not rot your roof. We use the Icynene spray foam insulation system, which is the most accredited and certified foam in the UK market. It is an ‘open cell’, breathable foam which is designed to be directly applied to various construction materials. This means it allows the building substrate to breathe correctly, while remaining airtight.
Breathability in construction is to do with the movement of vapour and moisture, not airflow. Because our foam is open cell, it allows vapour and moisture movement through the material, allowing the substrate — whether it is timber or stone — to ‘breathe’ as it normally should.
Breathability in construction, is quite different to breathability in a person and this is often where the confusion lies. Breathability in construction is to do with the movement of vapour and moisture — not airflow — like in you and me!
No. Like most building materials, there are cheaper options, but in no way can these materials — for example wool — be compared to the performance of our spray foam. Our foam as a guide is approximately the same price as the equivalent depth of a rigid board insulation, except our price also includes installation and any waste removal, so it is usually cheaper and faster than an equivalent rigid board install.
This is true when using other, non-breathable products, and is a traditional requirement. However, because of our foams open cell construction which allows the roof to breath, we have full BBA approval for the direct application with no ventilation gap needed.
Spray foam can be used in almost every construction project. From residential new builds, renovations, old barn conversions, attic conversions and retro fits to commercial and industrial applications, the list is almost endless! A good rule of thumb is if it can be insulated traditionally, then we can insulate it!
Yes! We have BBA approval for any application we install. The BBA are the approval and certification body in the UK which test and accredit almost every building product. As well as the BBA certificate, we also provide U-Value calculations and a condensation risk analysis to satisfy any building control questions.
Yes. We supply a 25-year Icynene backed guarantee, which means if ScotFoam ever cease trading (hopefully not!) your guarantee will still be backed by the largest spray foam manufacturer in the world.
Icynene are the largest spray foam manufacturer in the World, and ScotFoam are proud to be one of the only contractors in the UK with direct links to the manufacturer, meaning we can offer our foam at an extremely competitive rate. Icynene is also the most accredited foam in the UK with BBA, KIWA and ETA approvals for all applications.
